"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal". Bessie A. Porter, 79, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at her Sayre, PA home, surrounded by her loving family.
Bessie was born on May 3, 1939 in Sayre, PA, a daughter of the late Dewitt and Florence (McIntyre) Vanderpool. On May 27, 1958 she married Earl J. Hall Sr. and settled in Litchfield where they had 7 children. Earl passed away on May 25, 1974, just 2 days prior to their 16th anniversary. After Earls' passing, she met Robert E. Porter. They married on April 6, 1979 and celebrated 35 anniversaries together.
Bob passed away on February 24, 2015.
For many years Bessie was a sewing machine operator in the Sayre area. She was one of the best and could sew anything from dresses to curtains. She could also crochet like a pro and spent free time crocheting doily sets. She enjoyed cheering for Dale Earnhardt Sr. on the NASCAR circuit. Many of her weekends were spent at the local track cheering on any family members that were racing there. Fishing was her favorite hobby, along with playing cards (especially 88), playing shuffleboard (including tournaments) and making holiday meals for her family.
Her homemade bread was the absolute best.
Bessie is survived by her children Robert (Yvonne) Hall, Tina (Kevin) Learn, Thomas Hall, Timothy Hall, Lori Hall (Marvin Rice) and Duncan (Meri) Hall, brothers James Vanderpool, Enos (Patricia) Vanderpool, Glen Vanderpool and Ernest (Sharon) Vanderpool, sisters and brother-in-laws Leona VanDuzer, Verna (Ralph) Kinney, Rosemary (Richard) Bartleson and Kathryn (Dale) Stack, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, along with several American Legion friends and Ginger, her cat of 17 years.
Bessie was predeceased by a son, Earl J. Hall Jr. on November 8, 2012. She was also predeceased by brothers William Vanderpool and Arba Vanderpool, sister Viola Vanderpool, brother-in-law Chester (Leona) VanDuzer, sister-in-laws Leona (William) Vanderpool, Masu (Arba) Vanderpool and Victoria (James) Vanderpool.
