Burton A. O'Hare, 89, of Big Pond, PA was called home on January 9, 2012 at the Bradford County Manor after an extended illness. He was raised in Pine City, NY the son of the late James and Jessie (Taylor) O'Hare. He worked for his father at O'Hare's Meat Market, Elmira, NY before graduating from Southside High School class of '42 and proudly serving his country in the U.S. Air Corps, serving stateside feeding the troops and spending 1 year in the Philippines. He later had a career in food service including managing the dining halls at Syracuse University and running the kitchen at Lourdes Camp. He was also a correspondent with the Troy Gazette Register for many years. Burt was a past president of the South Side Businessmens Association, a member of The Big Pond Lions Club, Faith Community Church at Big Pond, and The Tim Leonard Rod and Gun Club (Lake Association). He enjoyed collection coins and loved watching the birds at the cottage and traveling in the motor home with his honey.
Burton was predeceased by his parents and a grandson Gregory Coon.
Burton is survived by his wife Louise (Comfort) O'Hare at home. Children: Susan Clark of Syracuse, NY. Sandra Beach of Virginia, Paul (Terri) O'Hare of Florida, Cheryl (Larry) Coon of Corning, NY, Keith (Linda) Warters of Elmira, NY, Karen (Alan) Bennett of Horseheads, NY, Pam (Bob) Haven of Big Pond, PA, Joan Kuryla of Cicero, NY, Marcia (Carlos) Mejia of Georgia. Grandchildren: Michael, Kaitlynn and Kevin Clark; Christine Mitten and Mathew Beach; J.P. and Meaghan O'Hare; Brian Coon; Greg Warters, Dawn French and Theresa Brown; Jeremy Waltmire, Jennifer Barto and Kendal Bennett; Drew and Tommy Kuryla; and Carlos Mejia, 21 great grandchildren and several cousins.
A memorial service and celebration of Burton's life will take place on January 21, 2012 at 1:00pm at the Faith Community Church, Big Pond, PA. Pastor Richard Noggle officiating. A period of visitation will take place from 11:30am until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be sent to the Faith Community Church at Big Pond C/O Mary Soper,2747 Big Pond Road, Columbia Cross Roads, PA. 16914, and to the Big Pond Lions Club, C/O Larue Austin 2736 Big Pond Road, Columbia Cross Roads, PA 16914, in loving memory of Burton.
