Carol M. Benninger, 74, of Fulton Street, Waverly NY passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. She was born in Towanda and graduated from Towanda Area High School, Towanda Area Vo-Tech and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Carol was a former member of the American Legion. She enjoyed gardening and floral design, watching Nascar (especially her favorite driver Jeff Gordon), collecting antiques. Her greatest pleasure and passions were her Faith and her family.
Carol is survived by her children Gay-Dee (Paul) Bloss of Ulster, Michael (Sharon)Kelly of Wyalusing, PA, Chris (Jenny) Kelly of Pt. St. Lucie, FL, Janey (Bob) Stowits of Athens, PA, John (Valerie) Kelly, of Elmira NY and Dominique (Megan) Benninger of LeMoyne, PA; her sisters Marion Manahan, Doris Lane, Bette LeStrange, Jacqueline Chilbert, Dorothy Louise and brothers John Michael and Dean Shaffer. Thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and their families also survive.
Predeceased by her biological parents Thomas and Irene Shaffer and her adoptive parents Claude and Ethel Michael; sisters Dianne Linaberry and Jeanne Marie Shaffer, brothers Donald Dunham, Thomas Shaffer, James Kilgore and Robert Shaffer
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday, July 29 at 1:00 pm. At the Greater Valley Assembly of God 104 S. Main Street Athens
