Obituary

Dawn Lee Steimel, 78, of Sayre, PA, peacefully departed a life well lived on August 26, 2023, at the Sayre Health Care Center. Born October 27, 1944, to the late Lawrence and Vivian Wood, she had married Gerald Ward (deceased) and raised thier children, Steven A Ward (deceased) and Diane L (Ward) Zoll.

Dawn left the Valley in 1981 to marry William Steimel of Havertown PA. They traveled the world and explored new places for 42 wonderful years.  She had a successful career as an Administrator at the Small Business Development Center in Chester County, PA and Lehigh County, PA. She loved her work as a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration counseling and funding start-up businesses.

Dawn retired early to support her husband's career by moving to different parts of the US.  She enjoyed the hospitality of living in 11 different cities and made lasting friendships along the way. Dawn especially enjoyed her time living in the Chicago area.  After the passing of Dawn's step-mother, Rachel Wood (deceased), in 2013, they returned to Sayre and purchased the family home.

Dawn had a weakness for handbags and purses. She loved them in all shapes, sizes, colors, and styles. She had closets full of them. She often joked with her husband he could have opened a purse boutique when she was gone.  Dawn always sought new and adventurous culinary experiences in the US and Europe, but nothing could beat the comfort and satisfaction of her own roast beef, mashed potatoes, and lots of gravy.  Her greatest joy was her generosity. She donated to many charities and helped struggling family members overcome various life challenges.

Dawn is survived by her husband, William Steimel; her daughter, Diane (Ward) Zoll; brothers-in-law Robert Steimel, Walter Steimel; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In accordance with Dawn's wishes, no funeral service will be held. She asked that her family and friends remember her in their hearts and celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in Dawn's memory.

Dawn was a kind-hearted, generous, and faithful person who made a positive difference in the world through her work, her charity, and her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in the Tioga Point Cemetery next to her son Steven. Memories and condolences for the family may be shared by visiting her guest book at www.tiogapointcremation.com.  Caring assistance is being provided by Cooley-Tioga Point Cremation & Burial Options, Inc. 802 N.
