Donald B. Shedden, 82, of Waverly passed away on Sunday February 5th. He was predeceased by his parents Leon and Emma (Eisenhart) Shedden and sister Vivienne (Crandall).
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joanne at home, son Bruce (Dana) of Fairport
New York and daughter Cindy (Dennis Lamberti) of Waverly. He is also survived by his
grandchildren, Miles, Owen, Ryan and Nicole and several nieces and nephews.
Born in Sayre, Pa. 1930, Mr. Shedden was a 1947 graduate of Sayre High School. He
was also a graduate of Mercersberg Academy and Princeton University class of 1952.
After serving in the Korean War as a First Lieutenant teaching artillery, Mr. Shedden
worked for the Marine Midland Bank & Star Savings and Loan in Sayre Pa. The 1960's saw Mr. Shedden's business interests taking him to Binghamton, where he owned several businesses including the Colonial Plaza, a Carvel Ice Cream franchise, and The Dog House Restaurant. The 1970's saw Mr. Shedden involved in the restaurant business, owning, most notably the Dixie Barbeque in Elmira and the A & W in Wysox, Pa. Before he retired he owned and operated several businesses in the Southern Tier, including the Hotel Bradford in Sayre, Pa.
A true original, Mr. Shedden was well educated on many subjects including economics and finance, classical music, the works of William Shakespeare, the life of Winston Churchill, and the New York Giants.
He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, his devotion and love as a faithful husband, father, friend and mentor. He enjoyed living in The Valley and enjoyed the company of its people, both past and present.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 2 pm to 4pm at 446 Pennsylvania Ave. Waverly NY to share memories and fellowship.
