Donna M. (Wood) Swackhammer, wife of Richard D. Swackhammer, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on March 19, 2014. Donna was born July 1, 1949 to the late Lawrence O. and Vivian M. (Cox) Wood in Waverly, NY.
Donna was a 1967 graduate of Sayre High School and went to work for ElectrolMechanical Corp where she built military shelters and later worked for Household Finance Corp for 8 years and then as office manager of Ideal Consumer Disc.
On July 18, 1970, Donna married Richard who was her loving husband, friend and partner for life. They enjoyed doing things together and spending time at their campsite at Haighs Pond. They would have celebrated 44 years of marriage on July 18th, 2014. Richard was always there for her on bad and good days.
They had 2 wonderful daughters, Bridget Swackhammer of Sayre, PA and Amy Swackhammer of Buffalo, NY, whom she loved dearly and will greatly miss. Donna also had a great love for her 3 special granddaughters, Amanda L Merrill who lived with them and was like a daughter, talented Brooke Rosh who was bright and cheerful and her special little angel Faith Marie Swackhammer who loved to stay with Grandma and Grandpa Swack. Donna always had time no matter what for her family.
Donna was also a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 6824 of Rome.
Donna is survived by her husband, daughters , granddaughters, her only sister, Dawn (William) Steimel of Wisconsin and a special grand fur-baby (Moose). She was predeceased by her grandmother, Hazel Cox and her stepmother, Rachel Wood.
Donna had a great love for her family and always put them first.
A period of visitation will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 3-5PM with a memorial service to immediately follow at 5PM at the Waverly United Methodist Church with Pastor Ann Canfield officiating. Donation may be sent to the Waverly United Methodist Church, 158 Chemung St. Waverly, NY. in loving memory of Donna
