Edlar Lois Marlatt, affectionately called Lois, died on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the Athens Health & Rehabilitation Center in Athens, PA. Lois was born in Jackson, North Carolina on November 8, 1931. She was the youngest daughter of Stonewall and Janie Phillips.
Lois moved to the Elkland, PA area with her parents and attended Elkland High School. Lois married and raised 4 children in Osceola, PA. She worked for the Elkland school district as a bus driver and owned Spencer's Restaurant in Lawrenceville, PA where she was known for her cooking talents. Lois served as church treasurer at the Borden Baptist Church in Borden, NY, for many years. Lois lived for a few years in Sandia, Texas, where she belonged to the local Baptist Church. In her later years she attended Waverly Community Methodist Church in Waverly, NY.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, Stonewall and Janie Phillips; by two husbands, Harley Spencer and Gerald Marlatt; her sisters Dorthy, Lillian, Lena, Carrie and brothers Robert and Maynard; daughter-in-law Nancy, daughter-in-law Lisa; a grandson, Harley Spencer; and an infant son, Kenneth Spencer.
Lois is survived by her sons Dale of Sayre, PA, Joseph of Tyrone, PA and Stanley, and her daughter, Diane Spencer (Bev Campbell) of Converse, Texas; a step-daughter, Mary Bocca; seven grandchildren, Jason Spencer and Bryan (Amy) Heysham of Elkland, PA, Valerie (Michael) Connis of West Corners, NY, Samuel Spencer of Corning, NY, Vaughn Spencer of Bath, NY, Brandon (Karen) Heysham of Greer, South Carolina, and Thomas Spencer of Lockwood, NY; thirteen great-grandchildren, Christopher, Christine, Hailie, Hanna, Cheyenne, Johnathan, Dakota, Clayton, Nathanial, Jeremiah, Elizabeth, Joshua and Alexander; one great-great-grandchild, Hayzlee; a special niece, Victoria Cumberledge of Knoxville, PA; a nephew, Daniel Cruttenden of Nazareth, PA, a sister-in-law, Ruth (Marlatt) Matteson of Galeton, PA; a former son-in-law Rodney Heysham of Nelson, PA, and a former daughter-in-law, Bonnie Spencer of Owego, NY. Lois also had many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who were special to her.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on May 24, 2025, at 11AM with a period of fellowship immediately after the service. At the Waverly Community Methodist Church, with a grave-side service in Knoxville, PA at the convenience of the family. Pastor Cindy Schulte will be assisting the family for the services.
