Obituary

Gene W. Day, 88, of New Albany passed away at his home on March 24, 2012 with his family by his side. He was born on May 23, 1923 at home on the family farm a son of the late Arley and Anna (Osler) Day. On September 17, 1955 he married Elizabeth (Wolfe) Day and together they filled their home with love and happiness.
Gene loved to live. As a young man he obtained a pilots license and enjoyed flying planes. He also traveled throughout the U.S. and many countries. He also loved trains and working in his garden. He will be most remembered for having the biggest garden in New Albany proudly giving away produce such as asparagus and rhubarb to his many friends and neighbors. Gene often got together with the "boys" for morning coffee and of course none would forget the stories he would tell and remembering every detail. He had a passion for collecting antiques and donated many to the Historical Society and local library. He cared about animals donating regularly to the Bradford County Humane Society.
Gene grew up working on his family's farm and was employed by the Township Roads. He also worked at Sylvania for several years and was employed by the PA. State Liquor Control Board managing the store in Dushore for 28 years.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Wolfe) Day in 1996. Sisters: Irene Fiester and Ina Avery.
Gene is survived by his daughters: Lorraine (Ben) Leljedal of New Albany, PA., Lynn (Mark) Canty of Sterling, VA.. Stepson: Richard C. Taliaferro of Glen Lyon, PA.. Grandchildren: Kelsey and Stephen Leljedal, Bryan and Bradley Canty and Richard Sims.
Sisters: Shirley Warburton and Jule Driscoll. Brother: Bruce Day. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A grave side memorial service celebrating Gene's life will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 2:00pm at the Overton Community Cemetery with Rev. Bob Brown officiating.
