formally of Olyphant, passed away October 14, 2009 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA following an illness. His wife of fifty years, Rose, passed away on December 21, 2000.
Born in Olyphant, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Owczarski (Ofcharsky), he graduated from Olyphant High School and was a member of St Michael the Archangel Church. He enlisted in the Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. Following his military service, he was accepted into and graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy at Hershey. He served with the State Police for thirty years, retiring as a Criminal Investigator in 1979.
Following his retirement, he and Rose traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He enjoyed carpentry and fishing, Penn State football, and spending time with his family. George was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather., He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his three children, Connie Latimer, Crofton MD, Michele Owczarski, Fairborn OH, Stephen Owczarski, Ventura CA, four grandchildren, two great grandsons, sisters Mary Zaleski, Bridgeport CT, Eleanor Glovinski, Bridgeport CT, Josephine Sienkiewicz, Avon Park FL, a brother Stanley Ofcharsky, Dunmore PA, and numerous nieces and nephews. .
He was preceded in death by sisters Anna Ofcharsky, Rosemarie Sostak, and infant Mary; brothers John Ofcharsky, Jacob Ofcharsky, and infant brothers Stanley, Edward, and Anthony.
