Obituary

James Leon Hoose, affectionately known as Jim, left this world on January 4, 2026, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania, with the warmth of his cherished memories surrounding him. Born on May 29, 1947, in Elmira, New York, Jim lived a life filled with love, family, and a spirit that resonated with those lucky enough to know him.

A proud Navy veteran, Jim dedicated a part of his life to serving his country, earning the respect and admiration of his peers. He carried that same sense of dedication into his roles as a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Jim's greatest fulfillment came from the moments spent with his family, a passion that illuminated his existence. He was a devoted father to his children: Tim Hoose of Berkshire, NY; Jamey (Gyla) Hoose of Troy, PA; and Kim Hoose of Monroeton, PA. Each child carried a piece of his heart and embodied the love he so generously shared.

Jim's legacy does not end there; he was a proud grandfather to many, including Amber, Lyndsey, TJ, Brittany, Brandon, Halee, Clara, and Cooper, along with several great-grandchildren who brought immense joy into his life. He also enjoyed the company of his brother, Robert (Lori) Hoose, and sisters Lynette (John) Zurn and Linda Hoose. Together, they formed a close-knit family that shared laughter and support throughout their lives.

Amongst his many passions, Jim found joy in fishing and hunting, activities that enhanced his connection with nature and provided opportunities for bonding with family and friends. He was known for his easygoing nature and the warmth of his smile, attributes that made every moment spent with him a treasured memory.

He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Dawn Barber Hoose, who preceded him in passing. Together, they navigated the joys and challenges of life, a partnership built on love. Jim also joins his parents, Robert and LaVera Howe Hoose, and brothers Richard and Donald Hoose, in eternal peace.

A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Jim’s spirit on January 17, 2026, from 10:30-11:30 AM with brief service to follow at 11:30 at Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church in Columbia Cross Roads, Pennsylvania. Family and friends are invited to gather to share memories, reflections, and the love Jim so freely gave during his time on earth.

As we remember Jim, we celebrate a life well-lived, rich with connections and the love of family that will continue to echo in the hearts of those he leaves behind. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and joy will remain an enduring part of our lives.
