James Edward McGuire, affectionately known as "Big Jim,". A life long resident of Towanda. Passed away at home on November 7, 2023. He was a dedicated, compassionate, reliable, and smart man who lived his life with an unwavering commitment to his family and community. Born on July 11, 1934, in Towanda, PA, James left an indelible mark on all those who were fortunate enough to know him. His life was a testament to his dedication and love for others, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who were touched by his kindness and generosity.
James was a steadfast worker at GTE Sylvania for 38 remarkable years, demonstrating his reliability and smart approach to his daily tasks. He was not just a dedicated employee but also a compassionate community member, volunteering at St. Peter and Paul's Church, the Bradford County Manor, and the Ambulance association. He served on financial committees for the church, showcasing his commitment to making a difference in his community. James's love for life also extended to his hobbies. In his early years, he enjoyed bowling, and he later found joy in spending time with his cherished great grandchildren, Addison, Liam and Brayden Burns, Kennedy and Kaylee Nichols, Bennett and Callah Durkin.
James was the beloved father of Patrick (Barbara) McGuire, Rose (Thomas) Durkin, William McGuire, Loretta (Charles) Harrington, Matthew McGuire, and Charles (Loretta). He was the treasured grandfather of Sean (Summer) Durkin, Lindsay (William) Burns, Laura (Wayne) Nichols, Rebecca (James) Sanfilippo, Derek Harrington, and Brady Harrington. He is also survived by his brothers John (Mary) McGuire and Richard (Kathleen) McGuire, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude McGuire, and his loving wife, Jean McGuire.
