Obituary

Jessie May Arcesi, of East Athens, PA, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, at the age of 92. She was born Jessie May Platt on November 14, 1933, the daughter of Floyd and Caroline Platt.

Jessie was a hardworking and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who treasured her family above all else. She was married first to Leo A. Spencer, with whom she had four children, and later to Joe Arcesi. Both preceded her in death.

Family was at the heart of Jessie’s life. She opened her home to relatives who needed a place to stay, always making room for family and helping however she could. She especially cherished holidays and family gatherings around her table. She took great joy in preparing homemade meals and desserts, often without a recipe, and her family will fondly remember their favorites. One they can all agree on was her lemon meringue pie, which also seemed to represent her personality—sweet with a little tang.

Jessie enjoyed playing cards, had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved making her family laugh. She also enjoyed creating floral arrangements and sharing them with others. Caregivers at the Guthrie Infusion Center sometimes received her creations as a thank-you for the kindness and care they showed her. Jessie had a green thumb and took particular pride in her roses, carefully tending them and enjoying their beauty. She loved keeping her home clean, with everything in its place, and was always looking for just the right item to refresh and update her furnishings.

Jessie was one of 14 children and was preceded in death by all thirteen of her siblings. She was also preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Bonnie Spencer, of Chemung, NY.

She is survived by her son, Bruce Spencer and his wife, Terrie, of Athens Township, PA; her daughters, Kathy (Kat) Spencer Love, of Painted Post, NY, and Ellen Spencer Reynolds, of East Athens, PA; and her stepdaughter, Sherri Arcesi Howe, of Waverly, NY.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, William Brotzman and his wife, April, and Kelly Wayman, of Waverly, NY; Jessica Humphrey, of Corning, NY; Ashley Spencer Gregorowicz, of Dallas, PA; and Brandon Reynolds and Tanner Reynolds, of East Athens, PA. Her great-grandchildren include Mia and Kai Brotzman, children of William and April; Elliana Bristow Reynolds, child of Tanner Reynolds; and three additional great-grandchildren, children of Ashley Spencer Gregorowicz.

Jessie will be remembered for her generosity, humor, love of family, beautiful roses, homemade cooking, and the many memories she created around her table. Her family will forever cherish the traditions she established, the stories they shared, and the love she brought to their lives.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at 132 Eaglewood Drive, Athens, PA 18810. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate Jessie’s life.
