John A. Steele Sr., 63, of Ellis Creek Rd, Waverly passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre surrounded by his family. He was born on March 11, 1945 in Iowa a son of the late Otto and Dora (Hafer) Steele. John was a veteran of the US Navy and proudly served his country from 1962-1966. After the service he married Sandra Norton. John was a big kid at heart and cherished the time spent with his grand children and friends who would come at all hours to the Garage and visit. He previously expressed that he wanted to tell everyone "Thanks for a great ride"

John is survived by his wife Sandra Steele at home; sons and daughters-in-law John and Emily Steele Jr. of Stacy MN; David and Kara Steele of Grand Island, NE; daughters and sons-in-law: Kimberly Burgert of Waverly; Fawn and Tim Shirley of Owego; he is also survived by his grand children Jenna and Ezra Steele, Christian Burgert, Emily and Samantha Shirley. He was predeceased by his parents: Otto and Dora Steele and a son-in-law: Christopher Burgert.

Family and friends are invited to a time of sharing and story telling to celebrate John's life at the Barton Community Hall on Saturday October 4th at 12:00PM.
