Laurence F. "Larry" Canavan, 81, a lifelong resident of Athens, PA, passed away on January 10, 2012 at the Robert Packer Hospital. He was born October 5, 1930 in Sayre, PA, son of the late Lawrence and Bessie (Rice) Canavan. Larry graduated from Athens High School Class of 1948 and served in the U.S. Navy. He was also a graduate of Rochester Business Institute. The majority of Larry's career was spent as a manufacturing manager at Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Horseheads, NY.
On February 21, 1953, Larry married the love of his life Donna (Kremer) Canavan at the Athens United Methodist Church.
Larry enjoyed hunting, and spending time fishing at his cottage on Cayuga Lake with his wife. He also loved woodworking, and together with his father, built several homes in the Athens area. Larry was a member of the Sayre Elks and the Sayre Sportsmans' Club.
Larry was predeceased by his wife Donna on June 2, 2011.
Larry is survived by his children: Patricia (John) Leljedal of Myrtle Beach, SC; Debbie (Jon) Hakes of Athens; Mike (Leslie) Canavan of Athens and his grandchildren: Brian and Lauren Leljedal, Sarah and Lucas Hakes, and Katie, Ryan and Emily Canavan. He is also survived by his sister June (Tom) Gorrell of Aiken, SC, sister-in-law Carol Lawrence of Barton, NY and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
At Larry's request a private graveside service will take place at the Tioga Point Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Those who wish may make a donation to the Spalding Memorial Library, 724 S. Main St., Athens, PA, 18810 in memory of Larry.
