Leonard W. VanAllen Jr. 87, of Sayre, PA., passed away on August 23, 2011 at the Robert Packer Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born on September 30, 1923 in Canisteo, NY. A son of the late Leonard and Inez (Roberts) VanAllen Sr.
After high school Leonard answered the call of his country serving in the U.S. Army WII 1943-1946
Leonard was a welder by trade retiring from Foster-Wheeler in Dansville NY in 1985. He married Olive K. Sjostrom on April 30, 1994 in the Sayre Christian Church, Sayre, PA.
He was pre-deceased by his wife Olive on October 31, 2003 and grandson Jason Johnson on July 5, 2009.
Leonard is survived by his children: Ruth (Norman) Kline of Monroeton, PA., Rob (Lisa) Johnson of Athens, PA., Rick (Peggy) Johnson of Athens, PA., Brian (Joyce) Newman of Litchfield, PA., Bruce Newman of Sayre, PA. and Bernard Newman of Sayre, PA. Many Grandchildren, great grandchildren and special friends.
Leonard loved to spend time outside listening to the birds. He loved life and being with his family. He loved to watch sports and was a life long Buffalo Bills fan.
There will be a memorial service and celebration of Leonard's life on Saturday August 27th at 11:00 AM at the Sayre Christian Church, 427 S. Keystone Ave. Sayre, PA. with Rev. James Donahoo officiating.
