Lowell L. Warters, 84, of Elmira, NY formerly of Gillett, PA and Apopka, FL, died July 10, 2013 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility after an extended illness. Lowell was born August 25, 1928 in Tioga, PA the son of the late Gordon and Clara (Carleton) Warters and was a graduate of Southside High School class of 1947. He retired from Westinghouse Electric Corporation in September 1986. He also owned Warters Pro Shop which he ran at his home in Gillett, Pa. Lowell was one of the best bowlers in Elmira and was inducted into the Elmira Bowling Hall of Fame in 1964. He also loved doing genealogy, watching baseball and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
Lowell is survived by his wife Diana (Knowlton) Warters at home. Children: Keith (Linda) Warters of Elmira, NY, Pam (Bob) Haven of Big Pond, PA, Joan Kuryla of Cicero, NY, Terry Warters of Gillett, PA, Wendi Westervelt of Erin, NY; Sisters: Wanda Holecek of Sandford, FL and Margaret (Bill) Rothwell of Clearwater, FL; Stepchildren: Paula Mychack of California, Tom Mychack of Arizona and Tim (Lydia) Mychack of Ithaca, NY; Grandchildren: Gregory Warters, Dawn French, Theresa Brown, Drew and Tom Kuryla, Gustin Warters, Jeremiah, Rebecca and Jared Westervelt, Ashley and Calvin Benson, Matthew and Aaron Mychack; Great Grandchildren: Steven and Kayla Warters, Allison and Jacob Brown, Rebecca and Caleb French, Natalia and Oliver Kuryla, and Hannah Westervelt and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service and celebration of Lowell's life will take place on Saturday Jul 27, 2013 at 1 p.m. at New Beginnings Methodist Church, 300 East Miller Street, Elmira, NY, Pastor Leanne Zeck officiating. A period of visitation will take place from 12 noon until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Lowell can be made to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America www.myasthenia.org. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Chemung County Nursing Facility for the loving care he received. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
