Obituary

65 of Towanda, entered the arms of his Lord on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Robert Packer Hospital. A lifelong resident of Towanda, Michael was born on October 26, 1945, a son of John A. and Virginia (Bishop) Brutzman. He was a graduate of Towanda High School class of 1963 and Mansfield University class of 1969 where he received his BS in Education and was a charter brother of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. On November 4, 1966 he married Sharon L. Bagley and they shared 44 happy years together. Michael was a devoted member of the Towanda Elks BPOE 2191, where he served twice as Exalted Ruler. He served as President of the Pennsylvania Elks State Assoc. (1988-1989)and currently as Chairman of the Elks Home Service Program. He was also the National Director for the Elks Soccer Shoot. Michael was formerly a Physics teacher at Troy High School, served as Bradford County Treasurer for twelve years, and was a member of Naiad Linta Hose Company. He dedicated many hours to the Troy Fire Department as well. He was repeatedly awarded in recognition of distinguished service rendered above and beyond the regular call of duty for his work as a volunteer fireman. In addition, he was a known and respected Restaurant Entrepreneur, Caterer and owner of the Soup & Sandwich Deli and the Granville Tavern.

Michael is survived by his wife Sharon at home; daughters Cassandra (David) Hoover of Bloomsburg, Pa; Mikal (Stephen) Bencze of Philadelphia, Pa; step mother Cynthia Brutzman of State College, Pa; brother William (Lois) Brutzman of West Balm Beach, Fl; aunt Mary Welles Smith of Elmira; grandchildren: Joseph, Mathew, Shannon, Jonathan Edmondson. Many special friends, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

A period of visitation to share memories of Michael will be held Tuesday November 16th from 6-9pm at the Towanda Elks Lodge located at 929 Main St. in Towanda PA. A memorial service and celebration of Michael's life will be held at 11am on Wednesday November 17th at the Christ Episcopal Church, 1 Main St. Towanda, PA. with Rev Maureen Hipple officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in loving memory of Mike to the Elks Home Service Program c/o Towanda Elks BPOE 2191 located at 929 Main St. Towanda, PA 18848.
