Obituary

Nancy L. (Alexander) Rogers, 86, of Sayre, PA was welcomed into Heaven on Saturday, May 3 after a brief period of declining health. Born on February 17, 1939 to the late James and Catherine (Hill) Alexander, Nancy was a 1957 graduate of Athens Area High School. She went on to work at the Robert Packer Hospital and retired from the Guthrie Clinic as a clinical assistant in the late 1980s.

On January 26, 1961, Nancy married her first and only love, Robert (Bob) in a small ceremony in their hometown of Athens, PA. In December of that year, they welcomed their first child, a daughter, Leslie, and went on to add their son, Douglas, in January of 1964. After living in New Jersey for several years while starting their family, Bob and Nancy returned to Athens to establish their roots and raise their young children closer to their loved ones.

After leaving the workforce, Nancy spent her days babysitting several children, caring for and loving them as if they were her own grandbabies. When she could, Nancy also enjoyed traveling with Bob, taking in the sights and enjoying each other's company on many trips together both stateside and abroad. Nancy's other passions included cooking, gardening, reading, going to rummage and antique sales, following Penn State athletics, and serving her community through her membership in the Sayre-Athens Lioness Club. Above all, the pastime that Nancy most enjoyed was supporting her grandchildren in all of their many endeavors.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her parents-in-law Clifford and Alice Rogers, several brothers- and sisters-in law, and many other relatives and dear friends. Nancy is survived by the love of her life and husband of 64 years, Robert (Bob) and their children Leslie (Jeffrey) Laninger of State College, PA and Douglas (Trudy) Rogers of Waverly, NY. Nancy also leaves behind her brother James (Carol) Alexander of Sayre, PA; grandchildren Patrick (Alison) Laninger and Robert (Courtney) Laninger of State College, PA; Megan Rogers of Waverly, NY; and Cameron Rogers (Jennica Rockwell) of Rockville, MD; great grandchildren Thomas, James, Maeve, and Noelle; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Near and dear to Nancy's heart were also her "adopted" children Tricia (Mark) Douglas of Sayre, PA and their children and grandchildren: Garrett (Melanie) Douglas, Maricia (Jeramy) Malanoski, Jayden, Jayna, Austin, Hudson, and Paisley. Additionally, Nancy will be dearly missed by special nieces Diane Williams and Janet Haines, and close friends Roxanne and Butch Ayres.

Per Nancy's request, she will have no funeral services, but a celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family is being graciously assisted by H. Macdonald and Son, Athens, PA. Nancy's loved ones extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Guthrie facilities in Sayre and Towanda, Sayre Health Care Center, and Bradford Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their exceptional and compassionate care of Nancy in her final weeks.
