Obituary

Norma D. Rae, 95, of South Waverly passed away in the early morning of April 6, 2025, from complications from a brief illness with her family by her side.  She was born on July 23, 1929 in Sayre, the daughter of the late John and Edna Isbell.  Norma graduated from Athens High School. She married the love of her life, Stewart Rae Jr., on June 25, 1947 and together they filled their home with love and happiness for 66 years.
Norma worked at the Robert Packer Hospital as a nurse's aide for 23 years.

After retirement, she and her husband spent many winters in Florida in their motorhome, where they took part in gas engine shows.  Norma was a talented knitter and quilter.  She made sure that all her children, grandchildren and some great grandchildren all had a specially made quilt.  She loved to read and do jigsaw puzzles.

Norma was devoted to her religion and was a member of the Waverly First Baptist Church.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband Stewart, brothers John and Harold Isbell, sister Inga Schramm, and her grandson Anthony Schultz and great grandson Aiden Blauvelt.

Norma is survived by five children: Sandra Rae of Sayre, Pamela (Thomas) Truesdale of Sayre, Stewart III (Barbara) Rae of Sayre, Timothy Rae of Waverly, and Miriam (Chris) Roedts of Sayre; ten grandchildren: Sheila Armstrong, Amy Carlisle, Timothy Rae Jr. Stacey Nelson, Samantha Rollins, Allison Dix, Rebecca Blauvelt, Jessica Blauvelt, Daniel Rae and Brittany Chadsey; nineteen great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A grave site memorial service will be held at the Orange Hill Cemetery at 1 PM on April 22, 2025.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Waverly First Baptist Church, 23 Tioga St. Waverly, NY 13892 in loving memory of Norma D. Rae.
