Obituary

Richard "Dick" Schultz, 76 of Towanda passed away peacefully at home during the early hours of April 16th, 2008
Born June 20th 1931 in Towanda PA, he was the son of the late Nancy (Cox) Schultz, and Robert Lanning Schultz. Richard was preceded in death by an infant daughter Ann Marie on May 29th 1959, brother Robert in 1936, brother David on March 22, 1945, and brother Leonard on Dec 18th 1984.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Sally K. (Hunter) Schultz. Together Richard and Sally raised three adoring children. Stephen G Schultz, David L. Schultz, and Mary Theresa (Schultz) Jurnack
Stephen G Schultz resides in Bloomsburg PA with his wife Tina and their three children Jocelyn, Valerie, and Leo. David L. Schultz resided in Towanda PA with his wife Lynette and their five children, Nicholas, Michael, Matthew, Elizabeth, and Jonathan. Mary Theresa Jurnack resides in Towanda PA with her husband David and their three children, Stephen, Kathryn, and Kevin.
Richard is also survived by his sister Mary Ellen Marshall of Towanda PA, along with several nieces, and nephews.
Richard was a lifelong member of St Peter and Paul Parish in Towanda. He graduated from St Agnes High School and served as an Alter Boy. After High School, Richard entered into service for his country obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Stationed primarily in South Africa during the Korean conflict he served as a jet engine mechanic.
After his service in the USAF Richard went on to graduate from Barber School as well as Auction School. For a number of years Richard was both a barber as well as an Auctioneer. The Barber Shop and the larger "Auction Hall" were located on the neighboring properties to his childhood home (Currently the location of Jurnack's, Naturally!).
Always a person to serve, he was elected as a Wysox Township Supervisor. In those days Dick could be usually found among his constituents sipping a cup of coffee at the B&D Diner in Wysox. (… he was know by many as the "Mayor" of East Towanda …).
Throughout his adult life he was also very active in sports. In the early years he played baseball for the "Wysox Owls" where he was given the nickname "Limey" (He would throw the ball so hard that the catcher's glove would give off a "puff" of lime smoke whenever the ball hit the leather.). He was also an excellent baseball coach. In later years golf was his passion. He achieved a "Hole in one" in August 1988, and he was always in the hunt when he played for the "Club Championship"…. During his golfing days many who knew him called him "Hammer" for obvious reasons.
Few people know that Dick was also an excellent gardener. His gardens and berry patches on top of Mt Washington (in Bath NY) were always bountiful and enjoyed by many. "On the hill" Dick was affectionately known as "Sarge"
Whether you knew him as "Mayor" or "Limey" or "Hammer" or "Sarge" or "Dad" or "Brother" or "Gramps" or "Sweety", there was only one Richard William Schultz and he will surely be missed…
